Introduction

Adonis' suite of Software modules is developed and documented in English. This is because international business communication largely takes place in English. This is especially true in shipping, where English has been the dominant language for many decades.

For the end-user, however, there are several opportunities to adapt to alternative languages. Below you will find a description of how this can be done simply.

Display language in Adonis Personnel Manager (APM)

As an end-user, you can choose which screen language to use in your daily work, and it is easy to change languages. Go to the "backstage" icon in the top left corner and select Language. Click on the back arrow and the system will change the screen text and menus to the language you have selected.

NB: Should this not happen, it means that the language file for the selected language is not installed. Contact in case your administrator. If single words or menus come up in the wrong language, it is considered a bug and should be reported as such.

Language per company

A general rule is that the customer is free to define codes in different languages in the General Code Table. Then you can filter out codes in the Organization Structure that do not suit the company you are working with. This is done under the General Codes tab. Codes that have been filtered out will not be visible when working with people who are employed by this company, and thus will not be used.

This can be used especially when you want to have HR for both land employees and maritime employees in the same Adonis database, but without either of the respective users having to deal with the other party's coding system. It can also be used if you want to have the working language in one company completely separate from the working language in another company.

Alternative language in Crew List Views

Crew List Views can in the same way be fully adapted to the individual language that you want to support so that the personal overviews that are not suitable for this particular company are filtered out as outlined above. All text produced through Crew List Views can in principle be controlled to the language desired by the person who creates the SQL statements that define the output data in the overview.

Alternative language in Custom Data Groups

When you build codes for Customized (user-defined) fields and data groups, you can do it in the language you want, and filter these only in the company or companies where it is relevant. This is of course done on both individual codes and overviews (Views).

Alternate language in Custom Reports

In the same way, as you filter other codes per company, you can filter report groups for customized reports. In this way, you can limit the selection of reports available to the company to only those who support the language you want the users of this company. The person who creates reports can of course adapt all output data to the language you want, including Report titles and text that appears in the order window.

Alternate language in Merge Reports for Word

In the same way, you can define report groups for Word documents that are set up for merging in MS Word in the Documents module. The person (s) who define the Word template completely control the output language themselves.

Display language in Adonis Personnel Portal (APP)

Some of the modules in Adonis Portal are adapted so that the user can choose the language. Initially, this is arranged in the travel expense module.

Which language is chosen will not influence the rules or functionality of the registration and processing of data.

Limitations

Please note the following:

  1. If you choose to utilize bilingualism at the code level, you will at the same time be subjected to significant additional work with the maintenance of two code sets.

  2. If you select a screen language other than English, this only takes effect in the standard end-user screens. Functions and routines for the administrator will largely still be in English.
