What panel pc/card to recommend to be used by the timeclock/gangway

The customer is responsible for acquiring the hardware/panel pc to be used for the time clock. This document gives tips and examples of what to answer when the customer asks for recommendations.

Panel PC vs Tablets

Be aware that there is a difference between tablets and panel-pcs.  From a user point of view, they operate the same, but there are significant differences.

Panel PC, compared to Tablets, are more robust and more suitable for industrial or maritime environments.  Panel PC has enough ports to connect external card readers like magnetic stripes, barcodes or RFIDs, and it is possible to connect them to a LAN network( needed if no wifi exists in the location). Panel PC can be mounted to the wall with standard wall mounting kits

Size of the panel PC

A good size will be from 9'' to 13'', but it is a matter of taste and readability.

Aspect ratio

This is important for the readability of the time clock application, it is not responsive, and the following Aspect ratios are supported.

  • 4:3

  • 16:9

  • WSVGA

  • 3:2

Most panel PCs are delivered with these ratios, if the ratio is not listed, let development know so we can modify the skin to fit the new ratio
